Push vs. authorization code transfers
Same registrar: the seller pushes the domain to your account. Different registrars: you use an authorization (EPP) code.
Push (same registrar)
Tell the seller your account username or email at that registrar on the order page. The seller moves the domain into your account; you accept it there if your registrar asks.
Authorization code (any registrar)
- The seller unlocks the domain and submits the code. It is stored encrypted.
- On your order page press Reveal to see it - every reveal is logged on the order, and the code is deleted when the order ends.
- Start an incoming transfer at your registrar with the code, and approve any confirmation emails.
- Transfers between registrars usually take 5-7 days and often add a year of registration.
Things that block a transfer
- Registrar lock still on (the seller must turn it off).
- The domain was registered or transferred in the last 60 days (an ICANN rule; a push still works).
- The domain is expired or about to expire - we check the public registry and warn both sides.
